Agartala, Aug 10: Timely medical intervention by a team under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) has helped a six-year-old girl from Sepahijala district recover from congenital heart disease and return to a normal life.

The RBSK is one of the key health initiatives aimed at ensuring that children, including those from economically disadvantaged families, receive free health screening, diagnostic services and treatment. The programme is being implemented across Tripura to extend healthcare facilities to people at the grassroots level.

Khasrang Tripura, daughter of Binod Tripura and Priyanka Tripura and a resident of Pushkarbari under the Bishramganj Primary Health Centre limit, was brought to an RBSK health camp with severe breathing difficulties and chest pain.

During the examination, Dr Jilam Das, the attending physician, detected symptoms suggesting a possible congenital heart condition. The child was subsequently referred to IGM Hospital in Agartala for an echocardiography examination. The test confirmed that she was suffering from congenital heart disease (CHD), following which advanced treatment was advised.

However, Khasrang’s parents were unable to afford treatment outside the state due to their financial difficulties. Taking note of the situation, the RBSK team intervened and facilitated her referral to Apollo Children’s Hospital in Chennai for advanced treatment.

The child was admitted to the hospital on May 7 and underwent successful surgery for congenital heart disease on May 8. She was discharged from the hospital on May 14.

On May 20, members of the RBSK team from Bishramganj Primary Health Centre visited Khasrang’s home to assess her post-treatment condition. They found that she had recovered completely and had returned to her normal routine without any physical complications.

Khasrang’s family expressed gratitude to the RBSK team and the Tripura government for helping their daughter receive timely and life-saving treatment.
